Privacy Policy

This is a plain-language explanation of what we collect on this website and what we do with it. We have kept it short on purpose, because right now the site does very little. It tells you about the game and lets you join a waitlist.

Who we are

Branching Skies is a mobile interactive-fiction game made by Midnight Gremlins, an independent game studio. This policy covers the branchingskies.com website and the beta waitlist you can join here. It does not yet cover the game itself, which has not launched. We will update this page as the product launches.

What we collect

When you join the beta waitlist, we collect the email address you type into the signup form. Nothing else is required. That email is sent to and stored by Beehiiv, the email service we use to run the list and send updates. Beehiiv processes your email on our behalf so we can manage subscriptions and delivery.

We also measure basic website traffic through Vercel Analytics. Vercel Analytics is cookieless. It does not set cookies and it does not follow you across other websites. It gives us aggregate figures like page views and referral sources, and it does not identify you as an individual.

When you submit the signup form, we also process your IP address briefly to protect the form against abuse. That rate-limiting check runs through Upstash, a service provider, and the IP is not attached to your email or used to profile you.

The service providers that run this site

A small number of companies process data on our behalf to keep the site working: Beehiiv operates the email waitlist, Vercel hosts the website and provides the cookieless analytics, Upstash provides the rate-limiting check described above, and Sentry provides error monitoring so we can fix the site when something breaks. Error reports are configured to exclude personal information, though a failure response from our email provider can appear in an error report while we diagnose a problem.

What we do not do

We do not sell your personal data. We do not record your screen or your browsing session. We previously ran Microsoft Clarity, a session-replay tool, and we have removed it from the site. Your email goes only to the service providers named above, and only so they can operate the waitlist and the site for us.

Cookies

This website does not set tracking or advertising cookies. The analytics we use are cookieless, as described above.

Why we collect your email

We collect your email for a single purpose: to let you know when the beta opens and to send occasional updates about Branching Skies. In plain terms, the legal basis is your consent. You give that consent when you enter your email and subscribe, and you can withdraw it whenever you want.

How long we keep it

We keep your email on the waitlist until you unsubscribe. When you unsubscribe, you are removed from the active mailing list.

Your rights

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email we send. You can also contact us to ask what data we hold about you, or to ask us to delete it. Write to us at privacy@mail.branchingskies.com and we will help.

Changes to this policy

Branching Skies is still before launch. As the game ships and the ways we handle data change, we will revise this policy and update the effective date shown above.
