The world is waiting. Will you save it or let it burn?

Branching Skies is interactive fiction in hand-built worlds. Create a character. Step into Syrinway, a fantasy realm with named places, real NPCs, and history that started before you arrived. The narrator describes the world. You decide what your character does. The world remembers.

Key features

The world remembers

Every choice persists. Every promise sticks. NPCs remember who you helped and who you crossed. Travel for a season. Return to a town shaped by your actions. And by the events that came after.

Hand-built, not generated

Named places. Real NPCs. History that started before you arrived. We built the world. You and our AI “Narrators” bring it to life.

Burn it down or build it up

Save the kingdom. Or watch it fall. Help the merchant. Or rob him blind. Every choice ripples outward. The world responds to who you choose to be.

Help us shape this world.

I still have the pendant you gave me…

Welcome back, traveler. Where shall we go today?

Frequently asked

Answers, before you ask.

Does the AI remember my choices across sessions?

Yes! Give Anelise a silver necklace today, and three in-game days later she’s still wearing it. Steal from the innkeeper in Derandil, and the guards know your face when you come back a week later. Our world remembers what matters. Other AI apps forget. We don’t.

What happens when the AI gets confused or forgets something?

AI can drift. Even the good ones. So we built around it. Our world’s facts live in a database: names, items, debts, what burned down last week. The AI narrates from the database, not from memory. Big stuff stays right. When the flavor feels off, tell us. That’s why we have beta testers!

Do my choices actually matter, or is the AI just guessing?

Yes. Your choices shape the world. Burn down the tavern in Derandil, and it’s a charred ruin a week later. Help a peasant family with the harvest, and the village remembers your name. The AI describes what happens. Our world-remembering database records what mattered.

Will my character’s reputation persist if I stop playing for a few weeks?

Yes. Step away for a month. Come back to find the world exactly as you left it. The smith still remembers your debt. The bandit you spared still owes you a favor. The merchant you helped still trusts you. Your reputation lives in the world. Not in the AI’s memory.

Is Branching Skies an AI companion or chatbot?

No. Branching Skies is a curated narrative world, not a chat app. You step into stories we built. The narrator describes what’s happening. You decide what your character does next. NPCs have lives that don’t revolve around you. This isn’t talking to an AI. It’s a story you live inside.

Is this an AI D&D game?

No. We built our own system, rooted in TTRPG tradition. Stripped down to what matters. Six stats. One d20. Four tiers from disaster to triumph. Nothing to memorize before you play. The action never stops for rulebooks. Your hero is yours to shape. Levels 1 through 10, earned by your choices.

How is this different from AI Dungeon?

AI Dungeon’s tagline is "an infinitely generated text adventure." We went a different direction. Our worlds are hand-built. Named places. Real NPCs with their own lives. History that started before you arrived. The AI narrates from inside them. They don’t get generated when you arrive. They’re already there. We drop you into Syrinway. Save it. Let it burn. Your choices decide.

Can I play this without a group?

Yes. We designed the whole system for solo play. No group needed. No DM to find. No schedules to coordinate. Just you, the narrator, and a world that responds. Play five minutes on a break. Play for hours on end. Either way, the story is yours to unfold.

Is this safe for kids and teens?

Yes. Let’s call it PG-13 equivalent. We filter out adult content. Romance can happen, but nothing explicit. Violence stays at fantasy-adventure levels. For adults and teens who want a real story without things getting gross.

When can I play it, and how do I get on the beta list?

Coming soon. Beta invites are going out in the weeks ahead. Want in early? Drop your email! You’ll play first. You’ll help us shape the game before it ships.

Is it free, and what will it cost?

Yes. Free to start. Unlimited play, with ads. Paid tiers unlock richer writing and drop the ads. They start at $4.99 a week in most regions. You get a free trial when you sign up. Cancel anytime. No surprise charges. We want everyone to be able to play, so we aren’t hiding the game behind a paywall. Ads just keep the lights on!

Are my stories private?

Yes. Your stories are yours. We encrypt them on our end. Abuse detection is automated to catch foul play. No human reads your stories. We don’t train AI on your play. We don’t sell your data. We don’t share it. Privacy isn’t a feature. It’s the default.
